What is Major for a Day?

This day is designed to give you an opportunity to experience life as a WSU student in the School of Performing Arts. The day will comprise of

  • An informational session
  • A chance to meet the faculty, staff, & professionals in the School of Performing Arts, Advising, & Financial Aid
  • Lunch ($20 registration fee covers the cost of a student lunch)
  • An opportunity to attend a class of your choice in Dance, Musical Theatre, Theatre Performance, & Design & Technical Theatre
  • A campus tour
  • Wrap-up to ask your questions
  • A comp ticket to one School of Performing Arts production

Location

Rhatigan Student Center, 小9直播 main campus, Wichita, KS 67260

Parking

Parking is available for you directly south of Wilner Auditorium. for directions to Wilner Auditorium. Click here for more information about Visitor Parking at WSU.

Attire

Please wear clothing that鈥檚 comfortable, easy to move in, & no flip-flops. 

Lunch

Your $20 registration fee pays for lunch.

8:30 am Check-in
9:00 am Welcome
9:30 am Students attend a class with current students that gives a greater understanding of performing arts 
9:30 am Parents/guests attend presentations from Financial Aid & Advising
11:15 am Learn about the different programs we offer 
12:00 pm Lunch
1 - 4 pm

Coaching Sessions, Auditions, & Interviews will be scheduled in 15 minutes time slots after registration. To help you prepare, see details below:

Theatre BFA (Performance/Acting)

  • Prepare 2 contrasting 1 minute monologue pieces

Theatre BA (General Studies)

  • Be prepared to discuss your interests

Musical Theatre Coaching Sessions

  • All students should be prepared to sing 32 bars of a song.
  • Bring sheet music double-sided in a 3-ring binder.
  • An accompanist will be provided.
  • Please reach out to Musical Theatre Program Director Amy Baker Schwiethale @ amy.baker@wichita.edu if you would like your coaching session to serve as a competitive audition for the Musical Theatre program.
  • All prospective majors must audition for acceptance into the WSU Musical Theatre program. Please note that SPA scholarship applications are due March 1st, and all Musical Theatre Program acceptance went out February 8th so this will be considered a late audition. 

Dance

  • 1:00-2:30 - plan to attend Technique class
  • 2:45-4:00 - perform audition solo and interview with dance faculty
